They say bad news comes in threes, and we had three SOUL-CRUSHING pieces of news today. First we leaned that longtime celebrity beards Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith MIIIIIIIIIGHT be parting ways. Earlier this morning,
RadarOnline reported that the parents to Jaden, 17, and Willow, 14, were headed to divorce court. Soon thereafter, other outlets reported that they were splitting, and the pair became a top trending topic on Facebook.
Naturally, word got back to the stars. Smith denied it on Facebook, saying. “In the interest of redundant, repetitious, over & over-again-ness… Jada and I are… NOT GETTING A DIVORCE!!!!!!!!!!!!!”
Ok. Sure. Right. Whatever you say. Although I have a feeling they’re doing that celebrity thing where they deny it, deny it, deny it, until THEY get to announce it (usually on a Friday evening, after the week’s news cycle ends), so as to control the narrative.
Then came word that Reba McEntire and her husband of 26 YEARS, Narvel Blackstock, are separating. NOOOOOOOOOOOO!
In a joint statement released to People magazine on Monday, a representative for the country star, 60, and Blackstock, 58, said that they had been separated for the past several months but would continue to work together. (Blackstock is also McEntire’s manager.)
“Despite this being the end of their marriage, they continue to support each other,” the statement continued. “They have worked together for 35 years and will continue to do so. They have asked that you respect their privacy during this time.”
If those two crazy kids can’t make it work, WHO CAN?
But the kicker came just a few minutes ago when TMZ broke the TRULY DEVESTATING news that Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale were breaking up, which seems reeeeeally sad. Especially for you millennials out there who are still reeling from that Ashley Simpson/Pete wentz split (#NEVERFORGET).
Gwen cites irreconcilable differences in her divorce petition, which seeks to end their 13-year-marriage.
Gwen, who’s repped by attorney Scott Weston, is asking for joint custody of the couple’s 3 kids — 9-year-old Kingston, 6-year-old Zuma and 1-year-old Apollo.
Gavin, who’s repped by disso-queen Laura Wasser, filed his response at the same time, and he’s also asking for joint custody. It’s clear the petition and response were orchestrated to be filed simultaneously.
Sources tell TMZ there is no prenup, so the 50/50 California community property laws kick in. 45-year-old Gwen is worth a reported $80 million, and 49-year-old Gavin’s worth an estimated $35 million. Given the length of the marriage, that will probably all go into one pot before it’s divided.
Gwen checked the box on the form to deny Gavin spousal support.
In a joint statement they said, “While the two of us have come to the mutual decision that we will no longer be partners in marriage, we remain partners in parenthood and are committed to jointly raising our three sons in a happy and healthy environment.”
I mean, if Gwen put up with his illegitimate child, rumors of his infidelity (with Courtney Love!), and that juicy gay past, you’d think she could put up with anything! It muyst have been pretty bad for her to separate when they have a one-year-old child! I have a feeling this one is about to get veeeeerrry nasty.
