The hefty statuette featured in the 1941 noir The Maltese Falcon is being put on the block. Bonhams auction house in New York City says the bird is the highlight of the auction set for November 25. No presale estimate was provided. The most important prop seen and handled by no less a luminary than Humphrey Bogart in the classic John Huston film would make a fab paperweight. (Do people still use paperweights?) The bird’s etched with a Warner Bros inventory number, and is the only version known to have appeared in the movie.
