Geena Rocero made an appearance, on The Wow report this last Spring and now she’s walking the runway for Carmen Marc Valvo‘s Spring 2015 collection at New York Fashion Week. She’s also featured in this month’s Glamour magazine. When she gave her Ted talk, the audience cheered her announcement and she received a standing ovation from the crowd, and that talk has racked up over 2 million views.
When her agent at Next Management, Ron Gerard heard the news, he was stunned.
“I had no idea. It was like—boom! I give her a lot of credit for doing what she’s done and taking a stand.”
Gary Bertalovitz, an agent at Images Management, who worked with Rocero earlier in her career, was equally surprised.
“I didn’t know, but it doesn’t change anything. It’s still Geena — she’s a great girl.”
This was a reception she never could have imagined when she began modeling nearly a decade ago. Nor could she have predicted that 2014 would be the year of the transgender, Laverne Cox making the cover of Time magazine, RuPaul’s Drag Race’s Carmen Carrera’s rise to fame and others starring in ads for Barneys, being accepted as Girl Scouts and homecoming queens. Today 89% of Americans believe transgender people deserve the same rights and legal protections as everyone else. Brava! For more on Geena’s story, check out the latest issue of Glamour.
